Perak PKR wants Menteri Besar Zambry Abdul Kadir to arrest the growth of alleged Umno cronyism in the allocation of state land meant for poor families under the planned village programme.
PKR state vice-chairperson and Teja assemblyperson Chang Lih Kang wants Zambry to check all districts in the state to ensure that no Umno members who are well-off obtain land allocations meant for poor families.
Chang said PKR made a check at the Kampar district and land office and found that 10 lots of state land meant for poor families in Sungai Itek, Gopeng had each been allocated, one each, to 10 committee members of the Umno Gopeng division.
“This is blatant cronyism as eight members of this committee have received state awards and titles and most of them are well-off,” he added.
Chang did not see the necessity for them to receive such allocations when thousands of hardcore poor families have neither proper housing nor land.
Chang said this at a media conference at the Gopeng MP’s party office this morning. He also distributed copies of the Kampar district and land office list of 127 identified recipients for the land scheme programme to the journalists present.
Scrap the allocation
The land office letter dated Nov 24, gives 14 days from Nov 30 to Dec 13 for the potential recipients to send in their applications.
“The Kampar land office should scrap the allocation of land lots for people who are not qualified.
“Otherwise, we will be lodging a report with the MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) on the Dec 13 deadline,” warned Chang.
Gopeng Umno division chief Hamzah Mohd Kassim was not available for comment.
Chang also took a swipe at the state MCA for being ‘obsessed’ in party politicking and forgetting their commitment to serve the people’s needs.
“I urge them to be more concerned (about) the abuse of state land and ensure that such land reaches the targeted group and not to political cronies,” he said.
